SIP calculator: what a monthly investment could become.
Pick a monthly amount, a duration and an assumed return. The calculator shows what you invest and what the same money would be worth if that return actually happened every year. It never will, exactly — that is the point of the honest labelling.
An assumption for illustration. Actual returns vary every year and can be negative in the short term. No return is promised.
SIPs start at ₹100 a month through Upstox, with ₹0 mutual fund commission. The formula is FV = P × ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1) ÷ r × (1 + r).

At the assumed return, every year, without exception. Real returns differ.

Expense ratios, taxes on gains and inflation are not part of this calculation, and the assumed return is not a forecast of any fund. Treat the number as a map of the mathematics, not a picture of your future account.
How the math works
Every number this calculator uses, and where it comes from.
The future-value formula
Each monthly instalment compounds at the assumed annual rate for the months it stays invested. The calculator sums those values: FV = P × ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1) ÷ r × (1 + r), with r the monthly rate and n the number of months.
The return rate is an assumption
The slider goes from 1% to 15% because those are the rates people typically ask about. It is not a forecast of any fund. A SIP in an index fund has returned differently in every historical period, including negative years.
What the calculator ignores
Expense ratios, taxes on gains, inflation and the fact that you will likely increase or pause the SIP over the years. Treat the output as a map of the mathematics, not a picture of your future account.
What the calculator gets right
The habit. A ₹5,000 monthly SIP for 10 years means ₹6,00,000 of invested money, and the compounding shown here is real mathematics that applies to any investment that actually grows.
A worked example: ₹5,000 a month for 10 years at an assumed 12%
You invest ₹6,00,000 in total. At a constant 12% annual return the calculator shows about ₹11,61,700, of which roughly ₹5,61,700 is compounding. At 8% the same ₹6,00,000 shows about ₹9,20,900, and at 4% about ₹7,38,700. The spread between those numbers is the entire risk conversation: the rate you actually get decides everything, and no one can promise it.
Questions people ask
Straight answers, the same standard as every other page on this site.
The answer that survives contact with real life is: an amount you can keep paying in your worst month, not your best one. Upstox SIPs start at ₹100 a month, so the floor is low. This is not investment advice; the amount is your call after looking at your own budget.
It is a commonly quoted long-term average for Indian equity indices, but an average is not a promise. Some decades returned more, some less, and single years have been sharply negative. That is why the calculator lets you move the rate and shows the result changing.
Through Upstox, mutual fund commission is ₹0 and SIPs start at ₹100 a month. The fund itself has an expense ratio, which is deducted inside the fund and is not a separate bill you pay.
Yes. Pausing a SIP takes a minute in the app, does not close your account and does not liquidate your holdings. Many first-time investors run a small SIP they can sustain through lean months rather than a large one they stop after three.
