How the math works
Every number this calculator uses, and where it comes from.
Brokerage (Upstox, checked 16 Aug 2026)
Delivery: ₹20 or 0.1% per order, whichever is lower. Intraday and futures: ₹20 or 0.05%, whichever is lower. Options: flat ₹20 per order.
STT
0.1% on both sides of equity delivery, 0.025% on the sell side of intraday, 0.02% on the sell side of futures, and 0.1% of premium on the sell side of options.
Stamp duty
0.015% on the buy side of delivery, 0.003% on the buy side of intraday, 0.002% for futures and 0.003% of premium for options.
Exchange and regulatory
NSE transaction charges of 0.00297% for equity and 0.00173% for futures, plus SEBI fees of ₹10 per crore of turnover, then 18% GST on brokerage and transaction charges.
DP charges
₹20 + GST per scrip per day, charged only when you sell shares from your demat account. Delivery trades only; intraday and F&O positions never hit the demat.
What this calculator leaves out
Options exchange transaction charges and IPFT, which vary by contract, and any delayed-payment or penalty charges. For the exact charge on a real order, the order window shows it before you confirm.
A worked example: 10 shares of a ₹1,000 stock, sold at ₹1,100
Turnover is ₹10,000 buying plus ₹11,000 selling. Delivery brokerage is ₹10 buying and ₹11 selling, because 0.1% of each turnover is lower than the ₹20 cap. STT is ₹21 (0.1% on both sides). Stamp duty ₹1.50 on the buy. Exchange charges ₹0.62, SEBI fees and IPFT ₹0.04 together. GST ₹3.90 on the chargeable items. DP charges ₹23.60 on the sell. Total charges come to about ₹71.67, so your ₹1,000 gross profit lands at about ₹928.33. Enter the same numbers above and the ledger reproduces every line.
Questions people ask
Straight answers, the same standard as every other page on this site.
Options exchange transaction charges, IPFT and any penalty or delayed-payment charges are excluded here, and stamp duty rounds differently in real settlement. For equity delivery and intraday the calculator lands within a rupee or two of the contract note.
That depends on the trade, not the label. Intraday avoids DP charges and pays half the STT, but delivery lets you hold the shares. Run your numbers through both segments and compare the total charges row.
Yes. STT, stamp duty, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fees and GST are set by regulation and apply at every broker. Only the brokerage row and the DP row differ between brokers, which is what the comparison pages measure.
There is no exchange-imposed minimum trade value. A single share can be bought. On very small orders the ₹20 brokerage floor and DP charge take a bigger share of the trade, which is why the breakeven calculator exists.
